We invite Temple members to add the names of loved ones to our Healing List who are facing the challenge of illness or injury. Our wish is to support them and our members during these difficult times by reading their names and including them in our communal Mi Shebeirach prayers during Shabbat services. These names are read at the beginning of our Torah service, followed by singing the Mi Shebeirach blessing. We only ask that you please remember to remove the name of your loved one following the recovery of their illness.
The Mi Shebeirach prayer is one of the central Jewish prayers for those who are facing illness. The prayer includes pleas for both physical and spiritual healing. Traditionally, the Mi Shebeirach is said in synagogues when the Torah is read. In modern times, the Mi Shebeirach is often said by professional health caregivers, patients, and loved ones at various times during treatment and recovery from illness.
Mi Shebeirach – The Healing Prayer, Lyrics by Debbie Friedman and Drorah Setel
Mi she-bei-rach a-vo-tei-nu
M’kor hab-ra-cha l’i-mo-tei-nu
May the Source of strength
Who blessed the ones before us
Help us find the courage
To make our lives a blessing
And let us say, Amen.
Mi she-bei-rach i-mo-tei-nu
M’kor hab-ra-cha la-a-vo-tei-nu
Bless those in need of healing
With re-fu-ah she-lei-ma
The renewal of body
The renewal of spirit
And let us say, Amen.
